The History of the Mustang
This would be Ford's first re-design since the initial release of the Mustang in 1964. The grille opening was enlarged and made deeper eith the horizontal and vertical mesh; but they kept the running pony in the corral emblem. They also designed the body two and half inches wider and a half inch taller than the original pony, in attempts to sell off a more aggressive package. Despite the size upgrade the wheelbase of 108 inches stayed the same.
Not only was the body re-designed, but so was the interior, a new dash was added along with a tilt away steering wheel and a fold-down rear seat.
1967 was the only year for the Mustang GTA, which is a Mustang GT with an automatic transmission; marked on the rocker panel stripes.
Total production numbers for 1967 was 472,121.
PETTY’S GARAGE BUILD PLANS:
We helped clean up some of the metal work and gave it a fresh paint job to bring this Mustang GTA back to life. We didn't stop there, as we freshened up the internals of the engine and transmission to get everything working together as one.
Last but not least the interior was redone to give it a classic touch of going back in time!
